Avignon – the Popes’ Palace

On Saturday afternoon Phil toured the Popes’ Palace in Avignon. The Palace was built in the 14th century as the official residence of the Popes when they ruled from Avignon from 1309 to 1377. The building is huge and has many very impressive rooms. Unfortunately the rooms are mostly bare of furnishings and frescos due to massive damage inflicted by soldiers during the French Revolution. Still, the huge medieval building itself was well worth seeing.
