On Tuesday we toured the beautiful city of Lyon. Lyon is the
third largest city in France with over two million people in its metropolitan
area but it has managed to keep its typical French charm. There was so much to
see it is very hard to capture even the highlights in a few paragraphs. The
ruins of the old Roman forum were impressive, but the churches were even more
so.
We travelled up to the top of Fourviere, one of the main
hills in Lyon, to the magnificent basilica, Notre-Dame de Fourviere. It was
built over 24 years in the 19th century and is decorated in the most
incredible detail. The huge mosaics consist of thousands of tiny tessels (glass
tiles) many of which are gold coloured as they are actually backed by gold
leaf. The photos below will help you get the picture, but unfortunately mere
photos cannot do it justice.
From Fourviere we also had magnificent views of the city, as
you will also see from the photos. The last one below is the Opera House. A barrel of fun?
Watch this space tomorrow as tonight we are going to a show
spectacular featuring a sort of Cirque de Soleil followed by the can can dancing. Our Cruise director was hilarious describing
the night. He has suggested the men
attend as there is a lot of “”bouncey bouncey” to be seen. As he said so sweetly it is an “Ooh La La”
type of show with Ooh La La means Awesome not Shit!!! We can take pictures but
we are not allowed to “flash”! Double
entendres were the flavour of the evening last night. Once we get home from the show there is
dancing again tonight, so despite eating sparingly at meals (“Yeah right!!”) we
can shake the booty and the calories will drop onto the floor. As if…..
